Oprah to leave WeightWatchers board of directors

Oprah Winfrey will step down from the board of weight loss company WW, formerly known as WeightWatchers.

Winfrey will not be running for re-election to the board at the shareholders’ meeting in May. He has been a member of the board since 2015.

“I look forward to continuing to advise and collaborate with WeightWatchers and CEO Sima Sistani to recognize obesity as a chronic condition, work to reduce stigma, and elevate the conversation around health justice advocacy,” Winfrey said. in a news release.

Winfrey announced that she will donate her WW stock to the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

“I have been a long-time supporter of this worthy organization and am proud to continue my support,” he said.

Winfrey added that weight health is a “critically important topic” and that she will continue to be a “vocal advocate” for it. He’s doing a weigh-in event with WW in May.

WW’s board said it supports Winfrey’s decision to donate her shares. He also said the donation was intended to “promote and highlight the contributions of African-Americans and to address a conflict of interest arising from his use of weight loss medication.”

Although Winfrey recently shared that she was taking a weight loss drug, she did not specify which drug. like drugs Ozempic and WegovyIntroduced to help people with diabetes, it has gained popularity in recent years.
