It’s unclear when the former president last owned a gun, but his New York City gun license was active in March 2023 when he was charged with hush money, according to an NYPD spokesman.
He has been under Secret Service protection since becoming the Republican presidential nominee in 2015.
Trump was found guilty of falsifying documents in all 34 cases last Thursday, the first ever conviction of a former US president.
He is set to issue a ruling on July 11, just days before the Republican National Convention, where he will be named the party’s presidential nominee.
The former president gave a keynote speech at the conference last month National Rifle Association Annual meeting where the group officially endorses him. During his speech, Trump called on gun owners to vote.
The Biden campaign criticized the former president in a statement about the pending gun license revocation.
“When Trump tells the NRA he won’t do anything to prevent convicted felons, domestic abusers and other dangerous people from getting their hands on guns, he’s talking about himself,” campaign spokesman James Singer said.
Trump was sued in a civil lawsuit last year for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll, although she has not faced domestic violence charges.
