Sen. Lindsey Graham, RSC, compared Israel’s war against Hamas to the U.S. decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan in World War II during an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
“After Pearl Harbor, when we faced destruction as a nation fighting the Germans and Japanese, we decided to end the war by bombing. [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons,” Graham said. “It was the right decision”
He added: “Give Israel the bombs it needs to end the war. They cannot afford to lose.”
Graham, a staunch supporter of Israel, has repeatedly used the analogy when criticizing President Joe Biden. threatens to keep certain weapons from Israel if it launches a military operation in Rafah, the southernmost city of Gaza, where more than a million civilians have taken refuge.
The moderator asked why Kristen Welker was good for President Ronald Reagan Detention of certain weapons from Israel During his war in Lebanon in the 1980s, but it’s no good that Biden is threatening to do so now, Graham brought up World War II again.
“Can I say that?” – he asked. “Why is it right for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end an existential threat war? Why was it good for us to do this? I thought it was good.”
He added: “So Israel, do whatever you have to do to survive as a Jewish state. What should you do.”
Welker pushed back, telling Graham that U.S. military officials say technology has changed dramatically since World War II, which he noted in the interview.
“Yes, these military officers you speak of are full of stupidity,” replied Graham.
His comments came shortly after Secretary of State Antony Blinken joined the program and declined to identify “Red line“ with Israel“There is no foolproof plan to buy,” says Welkere [civilians] The President has made it clear for some time that we cannot and will not support a major military operation in Rafah.
Blinken also discussed U.S. concerns about the use of “high-yield” bombs, telling Welker: “We have stayed behind and are actively negotiating with Israel to provide heavy or high-yield weapons, large bombs. Our concern is the impact of these weapons when used in a dense urban environment like Rafah.
Graham claimed that Hamas was to blame for civilian casualties throughout the conflict.
“I believe that as long as Hamas uses its population as human shields, it is impossible to reduce civilian deaths in Gaza. “I have never in the history of war seen such blatant efforts by the enemy, Hamas, to put civilians at risk,” he said.
“The last thing you want to do is reward that behavior,” Graham said.
