Rep. Annie Kuster, a Democrat in the competitive New Hampshire district, announced Wednesday that she will not seek re-election in 2024.
He was first elected in 2012 and is currently the chairman of the moderate New Democrat Coalition. Kuster, 67, said he will serve until the end of his term in January 2025.
His decision could make the seat competitive in the 2024 House elections, creating an opportunity for Republicans in the swing district. The state’s 2nd Congressional District, which includes Nashua and Concord, trails Democrats by just 2 points, according to the Cook Partisan Polling Index.
“This work has been many things – rewarding, frustrating, inspiring and challenging. But more than anything, it was an honor,” Kuster said. “As I look to the future, I’m excited about the work and opportunities that lie ahead. We all have a role to play in standing up for what we believe in, advocating for a better future, and achieving the change we want to see. I said – I will not want to be re-elected in 2024.
A source close to Kuster said he is focused on “turning around the House of Representatives” this fall and re-electing the New Democratic Coalition candidates and vulnerable members to Congress. “For the rest of the Congress, he will devote all his energy to this cause,” the source said. “It’s time for him, and it’s time for his family.”
