WASHINGTON — Marcia Fudge, who has served as Housing and Urban Development Secretary since March 2021, is leaving the Biden administration at the end of this month, the White House said Monday.
“When I took office, we inherited a broken housing system where fair housing and civil rights protections had been badly dismantled by the previous administration. On day one, Marcia began rebuilding the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and over the past three years, she has been a strong voice to expand efforts to create wealth, reduce costs and promote fairness for America’s renters,” said President Joe Biden.
Biden continued, “From her time as mayor to her years as a fierce attorney in the U.S. House of Representatives, Marcia’s vision, passion and focus on increasing economic opportunity have been an asset to our country. Deputy Secretary of State Adrianne Todman will serve as acting secretary after her departure, the White House said.
Fudge is only the second Cabinet secretary to leave the administration during Biden’s first term as president. The first was Marty Walsh, who left in March 2023 after two years as Labor secretary.
