Democratic California governor Gavin Newsom said the president on Saturday Joe Biden should discuss the former president Donald Trump – Despite Biden’s refusal to debate so far.
Asked by NBC News’ “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker about whether the two major parties would debate in the fall if they were the nominees, Newsom said, “100%.”
“Biden defeated Trump in the previous debates. I’m looking forward to it,” Newsom said.
“It’s pure projection about a guy who refuses to debate in his elementary school,” he said, adding that it’s “weakness masquerading as strength.”
Trump has skipped all of the GOP primary debates this cycle. But he he said thmonth he wants to face Biden adding “immediately” would be “for the welfare of the country”.
Biden has a campaign refused to participate in any general election debates.
Trump’s request to debate Biden came nearly two years after the Republican National Committee voted withdrewaw From the events held by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which has overseen the process for decades. At the time, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said the group withdrew from the debate because the commission was “biased and refused to accept simple and common-sense reforms to ensure a fair debate.”
