Houston police, fire department responding to shooting at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church

The Houston Police Department and Houston Fire Department are responding to reports of a shooting at Pastor Joel Osten’s Lakewood Church in the city, officials said.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at 3700 Southwest Freeway – the address of the Lakewood church – around 2:24 p.m. local time this afternoon. The department said in X.

Fire Department spokeswoman Martee Black confirmed the fire department responded to a shooting at a Lakewood church.

Pictures and videos taken outside the church show police cars and ambulances lined up.

When asked about the number of people shot or injured, Black said, “I don’t know,” and referred NBC News to the Houston Police Department for more information.

Police said the incident was ongoing and active and asked people to stay away from the area.

“There is an active shooting situation in Lakewood. Law enforcement is on scene,” Lakewood Church. Posted in X. “This is all the information we have at this time. Please pray for Lakewood and our community.”

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez X said“information remains preliminary because things remain dynamic.”

The shooter is believed to have been shot by one of the deputies on the scene and is believed to be on the scene, Gonzalez said.
