Taylor Swift delighted fans by announcing her new album during Sunday night’s Grammys. “Department of Tortured Poets” will be released on April 19.
Swifties suspected the singer might announce the news that she would be dropping “Reputation (Taylor Version)” after she changed her profile picture to black and white on several social media accounts, including Instagram, earlier on Sunday.
Instead, while accepting the award for best pop vocal album for “Midnights,” Swift said a whole new album was coming.
The Reputation album artwork features a black-and-white image of Swift with her name written in newspaper font, a thematic reference to how she is represented by the media and how she has been pushed back.

Following the announcement, a “red herring” trend began to emerge on X, with some fans suggesting that the “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” easter eggs were meant to distract from rumors of her 11th studio album. While Swift’s website was down before the ceremony, it showed an error message and the word “hneriergrd.” Frankly, these letters could spell “red herring.”
The new album will consist of 16 songs and a bonus track called “The Manuscript”.
In her acceptance speech, Swift revealed that she had kept the album under wraps for two years.
“I want to thank my fans by telling you a secret I’ve been keeping from you for the past two years. It’s that my new album comes out on April 19,” Swift said in her speech. “Its name is “Department of Tortured Poets”. I’m going to go and put the cover backstage now. Thank you, I love you!”
Swift’s Instagram page was quickly updated after the announcement. Her profile picture has been changed to a new black and white photo and her bio now reads “All’s fair in love and poetry…”
Swifties, known for their ability to predict Swift’s next move, expressed their shock on social media.
Other fans he speculated said the new album may influence the setlist of the Eras Tour, which continues in Tokyo on Wednesday.
