Speaking to supporters in Keene, New Hampshire on Saturday, Haley echoed Trump’s words. presidential contest There should be no settlement between two men who are close to 80 years of age or older.
“We see it [President Joe] Biden has changed a lot in two years,” Haley said. “But last night Trump is at a rally and he’s repeatedly reminding me why I didn’t take security measures during the Capitol riots. Why didn’t I handle January 6th better? I wasn’t even in DC on January 6th. I was not in the office at that time.”
“They say he’s confused and talking about something else, he’s talking about Nancy Pelosi,” he said. “He mentioned me many times in this script. My concern is that – I’m not saying this in a derogatory way – but when you’re dealing with the pressures of the presidency, we can’t have another person to ask if they’re mentally fit for it. we can’t”.
Trump’s comments came during a rally in Concord, New Hampshire on Friday, where he repeatedly bashed Haley, calling her a “globalist idiot” and suggesting he would not choose her as his running mate if she wins the Republican presidential nomination.
During his more than 90-minute speech on the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, Trump said: “Nikki Haley, you know they You know, they destroyed all the data, all the evidence, everything, deleted it all and destroyed it.
“All of this, like Nikki Haley, is responsible for security for a lot of things,” he said. “We offered him 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they wanted. They rejected it. They don’t want to talk about it. These are very dishonest people.”
The Haley and Trump campaigns did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment. Haley called for federal officials over the age of 75 to take a mental aptitude test, targeting both Biden and Trump.
But his comments on Saturday were some of the strongest, if not the strongest, about Trump’s ability to serve.
There is Trump previously accused Pelosi waiver of additional security his administration proposed to provide January 6. The House Select Committee to investigate the Jan. 6 attack found no evidence to support the claim, and wrote in its final report that Trump’s acting defense secretary, Christopher Miller, “directly denied it in affirmative testimony. swear.”
“I mean, I think she made a pretty obvious blunder last night,” Haley’s campaign manager, Betsy Ankney, said on a Bloomberg News forum Saturday afternoon. “But the main thing is that he has been arguing for months. In his announcement speech, he talked about how we need mental ability tests for politicians over 75, how we need a new generation of leaders. And so that’s what we continue to focus on.”
