WASHINGTON — The House Ethics Committee said Tuesday it continues to review a series of allegations against Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., including sexual misconduct and illegal drug use.

The bipartisan panel investigating the ethics complaints said in a lengthy statement that it also investigated whether Gaetz “accepted inappropriate gifts, gave special privileges and favors to individuals with whom he had a personal relationship, and attempted to obstruct government investigations into his conduct.” “

The committee said it would take no action on allegations that he “shared inappropriate photos or videos on the House floor, misused government identification records, diverted campaign funds for personal use, and/or accepted bribes or illegal rewards.”

Gaetz, a top ally of Donald Trump on Capitol Hill, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. One Type in X On Monday night, Gaetz noted that past ethics investigations against him had resulted in an “exoneration.”

“The House Ethics Committee has closed four investigations into me that uncovered falsehoods aimed solely at smearing me. Instead of working with me to ban stock trading in Congress, the Ethics Committee is now opening frivolous new investigations. They are doing this to avoid the obvious fact that every investigation into me has ended the same way: my exoneration,” wrote Gaetz, who led a successful effort to oust then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., last fall. A target of revenge for McCarthy and his allies.

“It’s Soviet. Kevin McCarthy showed them the man and now they’re trying to find the crime,” Gaetz continued. “I work for Northwest Floridians who are unaffected by this nonsense, and McCarthy and his cronies know it.”

This is an evolving story. Please check for updates.
