“The goal this session will be for the General Assembly to pass legislation ensuring that both major presidential candidates are on the ballot in Ohio in November, as well as legislation to ban campaign spending by foreign nationals,” DeWine said.
NBC News reached out to the Biden campaign for comment on DeWine’s remarks.
The late date for this year’s Democratic convention, when Democrats will endorse Biden, comes after Ohio’s legal deadline to endorse presidential nominees on the November ballot. In the past, such issues were quickly resolved by legislative amendmentsbut a number of Republican lawmakers opted out this year.
The special session will begin on Tuesday.
DeWine expressed anger at his party’s no-show lawmakers at the statehouse significant efforts Putting Biden on the ballot.

Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Elizabeth Walters blasted “corrupt GOP politicians” in a statement following DeWine’s announcement.
“Meanwhile, Republican politicians in both houses of the state house need to put politics aside and pass a clean bill to put Joe Biden on the floor,” Walters said. “Despite Republican political gamesmanship, we are confident that Joe Biden will be on the ballot in Ohio.”
Ohio used to be considered a swing state, but it has swung to the right in recent elections.
