Trump attends wake for fallen NYPD officer as he ramps up rhetoric on crime

Former president Donald Trump areached Thursday Following New York City police officer Jonathan Diller.

Diller was shot and killed Monday after pulling up to an illegally parked car in Queens.

NYPD spokesman Tarik Sheppard said officers were waiting for Trump in Massapequa, Long Island.

Trump previously wrote on Truth Social that Diller’s “heartfelt prayers go out to his family,” adding that the officer’s “life was taken by a murderous career criminal.”

“To the family of Officer Diller and all the other brave men and women of law enforcement who put your lives on the line every day, we love you, thank you, and will always be with you!” Trump said in his post.

Trump was already in New York and he attended the event hearing Monday in a hush money case against him. He has not held a major campaign event since March 16.

“President Trump is moved to invite the family and colleagues of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller to deal with his senseless and tragic death,” Trump campaign press secretary Caroline Leavitt said in a statement Wednesday.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden spoke with New York City Mayor Eric Adams about Diller’s killing and offered support to the mayor, New York City and the New York Police Department, the White House said Thursday.

Biden will also be in New York on Thursday for the major campaign finance Event with former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Trump has often criticized New York’s crime rates, and he’s lying he claimed the city’s violent crime rate “hit unimaginable records.” Since 2001, the rate of major crimes has decreased by more than 20% polycetcrime data.

Trump regularly blames Democrats, including Biden, for crime rates.

New York Police Commissioner Edward A. Caban Mourned Diller in X“This city has lost its hero, its wife and husband, and the father of a young child,” he said.

“We struggle to find words to express the tragedy of losing one of our own,” Caban said in the post. “The work that Police Officer Jonathan Diller does every day to make this city a safer place will NEVER be forgotten.”

On Tuesday, Diller received a dignified transfer, honored by New York police officers.

The last time a New York officer died was in January 2022, when detectives Wilbert Mora, 27, and Jason Rivera, 22, were killed while responding to a 911 call in Harlem.
