A Kansas man is suing Rep. Tim BurchettR-Tenn., because of social media posts identifying him as an undocumented immigrant and one of the shooters Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade this last month turned deadly.
A lawsuitDenton Loudermill Jr.’s attorneys allege in federal court in Kansas City that Loudermill suffered more than $75,000 in damages as a result of a “false representation” that appeared on the Tennessee Republican’s personal X account.
“Plaintiff was never an ‘alien,’ an ‘illegal alien,’ or a ‘shooter,’ and claims to the contrary were false and widely circulated among Defendant’s followers,” the lawsuit states.
Burchett posted a photo of Loudermill on X in February, identifying him as “one of the Kansas City Chiefs victory parade shooters” and an “illegal alien.”
The post allegedly went live on February 15th and was reposted more than 21,000 times and had 7.2 million views as of the morning of February 18th. Burchett later deleted the post. a new one he misidentified Loudermill as an undocumented immigrant, while also suggesting that Loudermill was “one of the shooters.”
Citing emotional distress and death threats Loudermill received after the posts, the suit seeks a jury trial and damages for misrepresentation under Kansas privacy law.
A spokesman for Burchett did not immediately return a request for comment Monday night.
Loudermill’s attorney declined to comment when asked if they were seeking a specific dollar amount for damages.
