WASHINGTON — The Biden campaign and a pro-Trump super PAC have come out with competing ads immigration It paints very different pictures of an issue expected to sway voters in November.

Biden’s ad is aimed primarily at Latinos, but also goes after former President Donald Trump and his rhetoric.

“Now he says there are immigrants it poisons the blood of our country,” Biden says in a 30-second spot he used at a campaign event in Phoenix this week. “What the hell was he talking about?”

The ad is the second Latino-centric ad this week, the Biden campaign said. It will be broadcast on digital platforms in English and Spanish in more than half a dozen battlegrounds.

“What do you call Trump’s words and actions: anti-Latino, anti-immigrant and anti-American,” Maca Casado, Hispanic media director for the Biden campaign, said in a statement.

The 15-second ad released by MAGA Inc., a pro-Trump super PAC, features Biden’s voice criticizing the border wall over a video of migrants. to push through part of the border fence.

The ad shows Biden saying, “There will not be another wall built in my administration.” It seems to be the same line that Biden said NPR Before winning the 2020 elections.

“The daily chaos at the border is the fault of one man — Joe Biden,” MAGA Inc. spokesman Alex Pfeiffer said in a statement. “Biden Repeals Trump Policy That Ended Illegal Immigration.”

The ad Trump posted on his Truth Social account with the words “Occupy Biden” was not a response to Biden’s ad, said Pfeiffer, who declined to comment on the PAC’s future plans for the ad.

The two ads highlight a critical issue for campaigns. About 28% of Americans named immigration the most important issue facing the United States Gallup poll was held in February.

When voters were asked which candidate would be better at securing the border and controlling immigration, Trump had a 35-point lead over Biden. NBC News survey was held in January. However, when voters were asked which candidate would be better at treating immigrants humanely and protecting immigrants’ rights, Biden beat Trump by 17 points.

The Biden campaign has often criticized Trump’s comments about migrants, which he compared to the former president’s character. Hannibal Lecter In The Silence of the Lambs.

The new Biden ad also features a 2015 clip When Trump announced his candidacy for the presidency, referring to Mexican migrants, he said: “They bring drugs. They bring crime. They are rapists.”

The ads aren’t the first time two candidates have gone head-to-head on immigration issues on the same day. Biden and Trump in a split-screen moment last month visited the southern border and spoke in different places at the same time. During the visit, Biden asked Trump to join him in passing a bipartisan border bill that was debated in the Senate but later backed up by Republicans after criticism from Trump. Meanwhile, Trump called the border situation “Joe Biden’s occupation”.
