After more than two decades of declining viewership on TNT and TBS, Netflix acquired the rights to broadcast the SAG Awards in early 2023. Netflix, a dominant force during awards season for years, also hosted.
“I personally can’t wait to get home and have Netflix recommend this show to me based on all the other stuff I watch myself,” joked Idris Elba, the actual host of the night.
The TV awards went mostly to the same shows that cleaned up at the Emmys and Golden Globes: “The Bear” (best comedy series ensemble, Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri ); “beef” (Ali Wong, Steven Yeun); and the cast of Succession.
One exception was Pedro Pascal, who won best actor in a drama series for The Last of Us.
“It’s wrong for a number of reasons,” said a visibly stunned Pascal. “I’m a little drunk. I thought I might get drunk.”

Streisand also took a moment to celebrate Hollywood’s Jewish pioneers.
“Now I dream of a world where this kind of prejudice is a thing of the past,” he said.
Saturday’s show was one of Netflix’s most significant forays into live streaming events. Netflix has hosted live streaming before Chris Rock comedy specialcelebrity golf tournament and a live reunion episode of Love Is Blind faced technical difficulties. But Netflix is gearing up for more. A live tennis event will be broadcast on March 3.
