Israel launched new airstrikes on crowded Rafah

Israel bombed targets in crowded Rafah this morning, hours after Biden administration officials warned Israel to expand its ground assault on Gaza to the southern city where more than half of the territory’s 2.3 million people have sought refuge.

Airstrikes hit two residential buildings in Rafah, killing eight Palestinians, and a third hit a shelter-turned-kindergarten for displaced people in central Gaza, killing at least four, according to hospital officials and Associated Press reporters who saw bodies arrive at hospitals. .

According to AP, shortly after midnight, an attack on a residential building near the Kuwaiti hospital in Rafah killed five members of the al-Sayed family, three children and a woman, and the second Rafah strike killed three more.

National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Israel’s ground attack on Rafah “is not something we will support.”
