On Friday, former President Donald Trump falsely claimed in a social media post that they had supported him for a long time. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon.
Dimon’s representative said he was not endorsing anyone in the 2024 presidential race, and Trump quickly tried to distance himself from the claim.
Trump first pageosted aboute econsent Around 2:00 PM ET on his Truth Social account, using a screenshot of a story from an unidentified outlet that said, “New: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon endorses Trump for president.”
A search of X turned up the earliest post by someone claiming the Dimon endorsement was false. From a verified account at 12:33 a.m. ET. The message was quickly echoed by other verified Trump-supporting accounts some have large followings.
Dimon spokesman Joe Evangelisti quickly retracted the claim, tells CNBC: “Jamie Dimon has not endorsed anyone. He did not support any candidate.”
“I don’t know anything about that,” Trump said when asked by NBC News about the endorsement before an event in Augusta, Georgia.
“Someone put it — no, I don’t know,” Trump said, saying it was on his Truth Social account.
When Trump was told by Dimon’s spokesman that this was not true, he replied, “Well, someone is using his name.”
As of 4 p.m. ET, the post was still up on Trump’s website.
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.
