Taylor Swift’s Republican views have gotten worse compared to last year, a a new NBC News survey showsjust weeks after the pop singer announced her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
About 47% of Republicans said they viewed Swift unfavorably in a poll taken days after the president’s confirmation. NBC’s November 2023 pollwas last included in the survey. Only 12% of Republicans have a favorable view of the singer, down from 28% last year.
Among Democrats, 58% view Swift favorably, up slightly from 53% in 2023. About 26% of independents have a favorable view of Swift, down from 34% in 2023.
A significant shift away from Republican voters has pushed Swift’s overall favorability rating among registered voters down from last year, down from 40% in 2023 to 33% this year. While 16% had negative feelings about him in 2023, 27% said they feel that way now.
“Who’s afraid of little old men than me? Republicans,” Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, a Democratic pollster who conducted the poll with Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, said of Swift. “His personal rating among Republicans fell from +2 to -35.”
“It’s a good lesson that it’s better to be a tortured poet than a tortured figure in the political arena,” Horwitt said.
Pop star confirmed Harris called the vice president a “steady-handed, talented leader” in an Instagram post after his first and possibly only debate with former President Donald Trump earlier this month. Swift signed the caption, “Childless Cat Lady.” comments Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, refers to women in positions of power who do not have children.
Swift’s endorsement also condemned Trump’s use of an AI-generated image of her. described the pop singer has backed the former president, saying she hopes her endorsement of Harris will combat any misinformation spreading online.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for rights and I believe it takes a warrior to stand up for them” Swift he said in confirmation.
A few days later, Trump took to Truth Social, writing “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Harris sang Swift’s endorsement later that night, singing the singer’s 2019 hit “The Man” and praising her “courage.” interview last week.
The national NBC News poll was conducted Sept. 13-17 among 1,000 registered voters — 870 of whom were reached by cellphone — and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
