WASHINGTON – Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is disbarred from practicing law in Washington, according to a ruling issued Thursday by the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
Giuliani was previously a lawyer for former President Donald Trump. first disbarred in DC in July 2021 and two boards previously recommended that his law license be permanently revoked for his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Both panels pointed to Giuliani, who tried to wrest thousands of votes from President Joe Biden in Pennsylvania that year.
DC Bar Council on Professional Responsibility in June, the report said That there was “clear and convincing evidence” that Giuliani “violated the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct” and therefore “should be removed from office.” Disciplinary board for the DC Bar Association made a similar argument in a lengthy decision last year, wrote that Giuliani had “alleged massive election fraud, but had no evidence of it.” “His complete disregard for the facts brings the legal profession into disrepute,” the Board said.
“Giuliani’s attempt to undermine the integrity of the 2020 presidential election has helped destabilize our democracy,” the board said. “His malicious and baseless allegations have caused lasting harm and are contrary to the oath he took to the Bar to ‘support the Constitution of the United States of America.'”
In a statement to NBC News, Giuliani’s spokesman, Ted Goodman, said Thursday’s appeals court decision was “an absolute travesty and a complete miscarriage of justice” and said members of the legal community “should immediately speak out politically against this partisan.” is a reasoned decision”.
“The people who followed Mayor Giuliani can’t take away the fact that he remains the most effective prosecutor in American history, who has done more to improve the lives of others than any other American alive today,” Goodman said.
Giuliani too lost his New York law license in July For his actions to spread lies about voter fraud in the 2020 elections. Separately, he faces charges in Arizona and Georgia over efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in those states.
