The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating the eligibility of the liquor licenses of three Trump-owned golf courses in the state after former President Donald Trump was indicted on felony charges in New York, officials confirmed Tuesday.
The three properties under review by Attorney General Matthew Platkin and the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control, part of the AG’s office, are Bedminster, Pine Hill and Colts Neck.
“ABC is reviewing the impact of President Trump’s conviction on the above-referenced licenses and declines to comment further at this time,” a spokeswoman for the agency said.
New Jersey law states that “no class license shall be issued to any person under the age of 18 or to any person convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude.”
The The ABC book defines it as “a crime generally serious to society and usually involving elements of dishonesty, fraud or depravity”.
Trump was indicted last month on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a hushed-up payment to a porn star in the final weeks of the 2016 presidential election. Trump maintains he did nothing wrong and is expected to appeal after the July 11 sentencing.
In a statement, the Trump Organization said it had nothing to review because the liquor license did not belong to it.
“President Trump is not the holder of any liquor license in New Jersey, and he is not an officer or director of any entity holding a liquor license in New Jersey or anywhere in the United States. Any review of our liquor licenses confirms that will,” the statement said, before referring to the golf courses as “some of the world’s most iconic properties.”
