WASHINGTON — A Secret Service special agent was removed from Vice President Kamala Harris’ detail this week after engaging in “disturbing” behavior, a spokeswoman confirmed Thursday.
The agent, who has not been identified, attended Harris’ departure from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on Monday morning as Harris headed to Wisconsin.
Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement Thursday that the agent “began to exhibit disturbing behavior from his colleagues.” “The agent was removed from his position while medical personnel were summoned.”
Harris was not present when the incident occurred. He was at the Naval Observatory, the vice president’s residence, and Guglielmi said his departure was not affected.
“The US Secret Service takes the safety and health of our employees very seriously,” Guglielmi said. “As this is a medical matter, we will not release further details.”
Additional information about the incident was first published by the news Washington Examiner, was not released. The vice president’s office had no comment Thursday.
