WASHINGTON — The Biden campaign released a new digital ad Friday pushing to repeal former President Donald Trump’s Affordable Care Act.
The 30-second ad, first shared with NBC News, features Trump’s voice criticizing the ACA as on-screen text details what Trump’s second term could mean for health care.
The text reads: “When he became president, Donald Trump tried to take away our health care.
“Obamacare is a disaster,” Trump says, as the text appears.
The messages are pasted onto the image of the heart monitor, which eventually flattens out as well.
“If he succeeds … 45 million Americans could lose their health insurance,” the ad said. “And you can be one of them.”
The ad, titled “Flatline,” airs just one day before the 14th anniversary of the law’s signing. According to the campaign, it will be broadcast on platforms including YouTube and Meta, battlegrounds.
“It’s not hyperbole to say that affordable health care for millions of people is ready in November,” President Joe Biden said in a statement about the ad. “I am more determined than ever to fend off MAGA Republican attacks and make health care a right in America, not a privilege. I know we will.”
The health care act was a signature part of the agenda of then-President Barack Obama and then-Vice President Joe Biden. The legislation required all states to provide marketplaces for health insurance, and millions of people have since signed up for coverage through these exchanges.
