Melania Trump reveals this in her new memoir supports abortion rightshowever, it leaves some gray area as to whether or not it supports restrictions.

In the book Melania, she says women should have the power to “determine what they do with their bodies” and supports the slogan “My Body, My Choice.”

“A woman’s basic personal liberty, her own life, gives her the right to terminate her pregnancy if she chooses,” Trump wrote. “Limiting a woman’s right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is tantamount to denying her control over her own body.”

In the next paragraph, he describes the “legal” reasons for a woman to have an abortion.

Melania Trump wrote: “There are several legitimate reasons why a woman may choose to have an abortion. For example, if her life is at risk, rape, a congenital birth defect, plus serious medical conditions.”

“Indeed, most people agree that abortion is permissible in cases where the woman’s life is at risk because of the pregnancy, as well as in cases where the pregnancy is the result of coercion or consanguinity,” he added. “Time is of the essence.”

The memoir does not address whether the reverse is true: If there are “legal” reasons for a woman to have an abortion, are there times when it is illegal for a woman to have an abortion?

Middle-of-the-road Republicans have long sought to emphasize their support for abortion under extreme circumstances, including rape, incest and maternal health. But many abortion rights advocates say it doesn’t matter why women want to end a pregnancy, because the choice is theirs.

Her husband Donald Trump’s campaign referred questions to Melania Trump’s aide Madison Porter, who did not respond to requests for comment.

Donald Trump’s campaign did not respond to follow-up questions weeks before the presidential election about whether he had any reaction to his wife, whose views contradict the Republican Party’s longstanding anti-abortion stance.

Melania Trump said in subsequent interviews about her book that her husband was aware of her position from the moment they first met.

“[Donald Trump] “I knew my position and beliefs from the day we met,” he said Fox News weekend interview. “And I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body.”

“I don’t want the government in my personal business,” he said.

The abortion issue has been difficult for Donald Trump throughout the 2024 presidential election.

When asked about the issue, he generally referred to the Roe vs. indicates that he has canceled Wade. The reversal put the issue back up to the states to say they supported Trump.

But he still angered social conservatives that the Republican National Committee, at his behest, removed the language from its own language. platform that he supports a federal abortion ban, Trump said something would not sign as president.

Trump also stepped on a political mine in August when he talked about whether he would support a ballot proposal in his home state of Florida that would have added abortion rights to the state constitution.

He initially told NBC News that the state’s current six-week ban “very short” but would not commit to whether Florida voted for or against the ballot measure. If the initiative passes, Florida’s six-week ban would be functionally repealed.

A day later, and after a pushback from social conservatives, Trump clarified He would not vote for a commonly used Florida ballot measure but lie justifying that it would allow abortion until the moment of birth.

“I think six weeks, more than six weeks. When I heard about it from the first primaries, I don’t agree with this right, I don’t agree,” Trump told Fox News at the time. “At the same time, Democrats are radical because nine months is a ridiculous situation where you can just have an abortion overnight.”

“That’s why I’m going to vote no,” he said.
