Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy’s new commission to cut government spending began collecting applications for staff on Thursday, saying it wants to hire “revolutionaries” who score high on IQ tests.
“We need high-IQ small government revolutionaries who are willing to work 80+ hours a week to cut costs,” the Department for Government Efficiency said. In an article on X.
“If this is you, DM this account with your resume. Elon & Vivek will consider the top 1% of applicants,” the post reads.
Musk also said the jobs would be unpaid, but “It helps America a lot.””It’s really going to be tedious work, make a lot of enemies, and the compensation is zero” he wrote. “What a great thing!”

Musk and Ramaswamy have called for sweeping changes, including massive layoffs and deep cuts to federal programs.
Musk is the CEO of SpaceX $3.8 billion in contracts with federal agencies this year, according to government data. It’s unclear whether those costs are on the table for possible cuts. He is also the CEO of Tesla and the owner of X.
Musk called on Wednesday cutting off grant money to non-profit groups.
“‘Government-funded non-governmental organizations’ is clearly a contradiction in terms,” he writes in X. “They are just an illegitimate branch of the government.”
Ramaswamy is a former biotech executive who lost to Trump in the Republican presidential primary this year.
The panel is called DOGE for short, though it won’t be an official federal department unless Congress passes legislation to create it. Trump has set a deadline of July 4, 2026 for the commission to complete its work.
Thousands of people respond to DOGE’s bill on X, including proposed spending cuts. The DOGE account said Thursday that it is grateful for people’s interest in helping, and now it needs full-time staff.
“We don’t need more part-time idea generators,” the account said.
It’s unclear who wrote the account’s posts, though Musk reposted the account’s statements as a signal of their apparent authenticity.
