Vice President Harris is expected to call President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday 2024 presidential race and is expected to make public appearances, according to two Harris aides.

Harris is expected to address the public at 4:00 p.m. at Howard University. One of the assistants said that he is currently working on his speech.

According to a White House official, President Joe Biden also plans to call Trump on Wednesday and also plans to speak publicly about the results of the election.

A White House official said Biden’s response to Trump’s overall victory will include all the things Trump never did when Biden won in 2020 — calling him to congratulate him, inviting him to the White House and offering to attend his inauguration.

NBC News he called In Wednesday morning’s presidential race, Trump was projected to win after 5:30 a.m. ET, with 276 electoral votes to Harris’ 223.

For his part, Trump announced his victory around 2:30 a.m. ET in a speech to supporters at a campaign party in Florida.

While Nevada, Michigan and Arizona were too close to call Wednesday morning, Trump carried several critical battleground states where both candidates spent significant time: Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

Harris, 60, began his presidential campaign after President Joe Biden, 81, dropped out of the race on July 21 and endorsed him as the Democratic nominee. Biden left the party after his devastating performance in a presidential debate against Trump in June, after key members of the party expressed deep concerns about his age and his ability to win the general election and serve four more years in the White House.

While Harris has about three months left to campaign, Trump has launched his third presidential campaign shortly after the November 2022 midterm elections.

Polls have shown in recent weeks that the race is even, and Harris faces a gender gap with more men, especially white men, supporting Trump. According to the NBC News Exit Poll, 54% of male voters voted for the former president and 44% for Harris.

The vice president has repeatedly said he is “reduced” in the 2024 race and has fought to distance himself from Biden and his administration and to present himself as a candidate for change.

His speech to voters included an “opportunity economy” that would benefit the middle class and tax the wealthy; Roe v. Wade pledges to sign bill codifying abortion protections nationally; plans to help make rent more affordable; and help families with home health expenses. Harris also attacked Trump, calling him “increasingly unstable” and “erratic” and calling him a “fascist” after warning voters that the former president was a threat to democracy.

The 78-year-old Trump presented himself as a candidate who would strengthen the economy and manage conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The former president was re-elected despite being indicted on 34 felony counts in the New York hush money case and an attempt to nullify the 2020 presidential election that led to his January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol.
