Police arrest suspect in shooting incidents at Harris campaign office in Arizona

Police arrested a 60-year-old man in Tempe, Arizona. shooting at the office of the Democratic National Committee in the past two months and hung suspicious white dust bags from political billboards in a nearby village.

Police announced the arrest Tuesday and identified the suspect as Jeffrey Michael Kelly. He was charged with several felonies, including unlawful discharge of a firearm, shooting at a non-residential object and committing an act of terrorism and criminal damage.

Tempe police also allege that the suspect posted several political signs in Ahwatukee, Arizona, with suspicious white dust bags and hanging with razor blades.

Last month, police said they responded to the DNC office, which organizes and campaigns for Vice President Kamala Harris, after employees reported hearing what appeared to be gunshots coming from the office’s front windows. In early September, police said the front windows of the same office were shot out with a pellet or BB gun.

Police claimed the suspect targeted the office in three separate incidents on Tuesday. The space is shared by Harris’ campaign staff, state Democratic Party staff and campaigns for House and Senate candidates.

The DNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Arizona is one of the critical battlegrounds Both Harris and former President Donald Trump are fighting to win the election.

Police in Tempe, near Phoenix, said they would release more information about the suspect at a news conference Wednesday.
