SCRANTON, Pa. – Donald Trump drew a silent crowd here Wednesday as he tried to stop Earnings of Kamala Harris in polls on how to manage the economy, creating a wave of insults against him and a bleak view of the future if he loses the election.
The former president Calling his Democratic challenger a “terrible person,” a “liar,” a “radical left-wing Marxist” and “no brainer,” his suffocating supporters often chanted taunts and boos.
He also said he got angry during his public appearances and rejected advice to get better.
“I don’t want to be beautiful. One said, ‘You better be good, sir, women are not going to like it,'” Trump said, adding, “Women want security.”
He then described an apocalyptic America if he lost.
“It’s going to be a 1929-style depression,” Trump said to himself made a claim About Joe Biden, which didn’t happen before the 2020 election. He has promised “the greatest four years in the history of our country” if he wins in November.
Trump, who spoke for more than an hour, made the remarks at the first of two rallies on Wednesday in battleground states in Pennsylvania, where both campaigns played a key role in winning the Electoral College. On Thursday, Harris is sending former President Barack Obama to Pittsburgh.
“Wind is bulls—,” Trump said during a debate on energy policy on Wednesday.
Trump used the big screen to play clips of Harris supporting the Green New Deal, an environmentally controversial method of extracting natural gas and oil, and opposing fracking when he ran for president in 2019, prompting cheers and boos from the crowd. Harris has since walked away from those positions, including dropping his opposition to fracking as a 2020 vice presidential candidate.
While the economy was the visible theme of the rally, Trump went off on a number of tangents. He complained about polls showing him trailing Harris — calling them “fake” and insisting he was ahead — and claimed without proof that Democrats planned to “cheat like hell.”
Trump accused Harris of a “coup” to get Biden out of the race, saying he thought Biden now “hated him as much as he hated me.” He predicted an “explosion” between Biden and Harris before Election Day on November 5.
He started talking about his billionaire ally Elon Musk’s “jumps” at a recent rally with him in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump lamented special counsel Robert Hurd He did not judge Biden the public extinguished his anger for mishandling classified documents.
“We want a Hunter!” shouted one supporter, referring to the president’s legitimately struggling son.
“Traitor!” someone else shouted.
Trump has promised trillions of dollars in new deficits through tax cuts and government spending, but has said he will “pay down the debt.” He falsely claimed to have signed the “biggest tax cut in history” as president while promising to extend the 2017 tax cuts and further lower taxes on tips, overtime pay and Social Security income.
Trump has spoken of the “enemy from within” as a “very sick group of people” investigating ties between his 2016 campaign and Russia. In that segment, he attacked an outspoken critic, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
“Shut it up!” A man from the crowd interrupted.
Before Trump’s speech, Harris spokesman Ammar Moussa said in a statement that Trump “projected weakness, not strength” by his commitment to safe environments.
“Americans are beginning to have real questions about Donald Trump’s capabilities. He’s cocooned in his safe haven in the right-wing media, backed away from 60 Minutes and refused to stand before the American people in another debate,” Moussa said. “He should say it’s because he’s afraid or because he can’t crack it.”
Trump told the crowd that he booked Madison Square Garden for a rally in New York and he’s “playing” to win the blue-leaning states of New Jersey, Virginia, New Mexico and Minnesota. He lost those five states in 2016 and 2020, and there is little indication he can win them back this year.
And Pennsylvania could be a tipping point state.
Scranton native Debbie Hendrix, who attended Trump’s rally wearing a “MAGA” hat, said she was cautiously optimistic but not sure Trump would win the state.
“I feel really good about it,” he said. “It’s like a jury out; you never know how it’s going to turn out.”
