Kamala Harris talks up McDonald’s gig in criticizing Trump’s economic plans

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris reaffirmed Wednesday once worked at McDonald’shas pushed back against former President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly claimed he never worked there.

In interview with Harris, MSNBC presenter Stephanie Ruhle said, “I just want to ask you, yes or no: At any point in your life, have you served two beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions—”

“In a sesame seed bun?” Harris said in unison with Ruhle.

He then added that “I” worked at McDonald’s.

“One of the reasons I’m even talking about working at McDonald’s is because there are people in our country who work at McDonald’s and are trying to raise families,” he said. “I worked there as a student.”

“I think part of the difference between me and my opponent is our perspective on the needs of the American people and then our responsibility to meet those needs,” he said.

A spokeswoman for the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Harris’ remarks.

Trump said He would end all taxes on overtime pay, though his campaign did not share details about the plan. He also made a proposal eliminate taxes on tipsHarris later said he was supportive.

Trump also insisted that Harris’ anecdote about working at a fast-food chain was a “fake story.”

In public speaking, Harris often describes his middle-class background and how it shaped his worldview.

During an interview Wednesday, Harris said, “My mom raised my sister and me. She worked hard; she saved up. When I was a teenager, she was able to buy her first house. And you know, for a lot of people, she can be a homeowner. People can’t get caught in our country right now.

“The day is gone when everybody thought they could really live the American dream. So part of my vision for the economy is to take some of the everyday challenges that people face and solve them through healthy solutions like affordable housing,” he said. he added.
