The Trump campaign said former President Donald Trump was safe Sunday after possible gunshots near his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
It has not yet been confirmed whether the fires were real.
A source familiar with the matter told NBC News that Trump was immediately taken to a safe location and is safe, the source added.
Stephen Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, said in a statement, “President Trump is safe after the shootings around him. There are no additional details yet.”
“The Secret Service, along with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, is investigating a security incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m. The former president is safe,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
A high-ranking law enforcement agency briefed on the incident told NBC News that while Trump was on the golf course, a gunshot was heard nearby.
As a precaution, the Secret Service moved him to a safe location, but there was no evidence that Trump had been targeted. Local police are investigating the cause of the gunshot.
In a post In X, Sen. Lindsey Graham, RS.C., said he spoke with Trump after the incident. She did not share any details on Trump’s condition, but added: “He is one of the strongest people I know. He is in good spirits and more determined than ever to save our country.”
