“Dick Cheney is going to vote for Kamala Harris,” the former Wyoming congressman said during an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival on Friday. when asked in an interview if he knew who his father would vote for.
“If you think about the moment we’re in and how serious this moment is, my father believes and says clearly that there has never been a more serious threat to our democracy in our country than Donald. That’s what Trump is,” Cheney said. “And this is the moment we meet.”

Cheney praised Allred’s credentials, citing his time in the House with him.
“We need people who will serve with integrity,” Cheney said. “We need people who are honorable public servants, and that’s Colin Allred in this race. So I’m going to work on his behalf.”
In a statement, Allred called Cheney a “patriot” and said she was “honored to have his support.”
“While we may not agree on everything, we have found common ground by putting our country above political parties,” Allred said. “What matters is that we both believe in protecting our democracy, our constitution, and the founding promises of our great country. And we both agree that Texans cannot afford six more years of Ted Cruz.”
The Allred campaign also noted that she and Cheney have co-sponsored more than 50 bills, a sign of their efforts to work across the aisle.
When reached for comment, a spokesperson for the Cruz campaign called Cheney “the poster child for flip-flopping.”
“We were very surprised to hear that Liz Cheney, the poster child of flip-flopping, has endorsed Colin Allred,” a spokesperson said. “Two years ago, Wyoming voters overwhelmingly rejected Colin Allred, just as Texas voters will overwhelmingly reject Colin Allred this November. But hey, adversity loves company.”
Liz Cheney kicked out from his House Republican leadership position in 2021 after criticizing Trump. In 2022 he lost his congressional primary to a Trump-backed opponent.
During the midterm election campaign, former Vice President Dick Cheney filmed an ad for his daughter’s campaign in which he called Trump a “coward.”

Harris campaign spokeswoman Liz Cheney did not comment on the remarks, but pointed to NBC News’ efforts to expand the campaign’s reach with Republican voters.
The Cheneys are the latest constant flow Republicans who plan to vote for Harris despite their policy differences.

In his speech, Kinzinger urged voters to “put country first” and that he claimed Trump has “suffocated the soul” of the GOP.
