vice president Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump The campaigns are set to debate each other next week for the first time after Wednesday’s campaigns agreed to ground rules set by host network ABC.

It will be used at the September 10th event in Philadelphia same rules and format Like the June debate between Trump and President Joe Biden.

Both campaigns had it agreed before The deal appeared to be in jeopardy after Trump’s proposal to hold the debate on that date can be withdrawn and Harris’ team was trying to change the rule about silent microphones.

Candidate microphones will be live only for the candidate whose turn it is to speak.

Trump campaign official Jason Miller said in a statement that the former president’s campaign was “thrilled” that “Kamala Harris and her team of remnants from the Biden campaign” had “accepted the rules that were already agreed upon.”

“Americans want to hear both candidates present their competing visions to voters without being burdened by what has happened,” Miller said. “We’ll see you all in Philadelphia next Tuesday.”

In a letter to ABC, the Harris campaign agreed to the silent mic rule, but said it would be “fundamentally disadvantaged by this format, which would serve to protect Donald Trump from direct exchanges with the vice president.”

“Despite our concern, we understand that if we don’t stick with Donald Trump’s preferred format, as he has threatened in the past, we risk missing the debate entirely. We don’t want to jeopardize the debate. That’s why we’re following ABC’s proposed rules in full, including silent microphones.” we accepted the set”, – the deadlock was ended in the letter.

The 90-minute debate will be held without an audience at Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center at 9:00 PM ET and will be moderated by ABC News’ David Muir and Linsey Davis. Neither candidate will be allowed notes or props, and both will participate in the entire debate. Both are given two minutes to answer questions and two minutes of rebuttal, with each candidate given an additional minute for follow-up, clarification or response.

The rules reflect the June 27 CNN debate between Trump and Biden. The speech of the President in the debate widely panned and ultimately led to her dropping out of the race and endorsing Harris in July.

Confrontation over silent or live microphones threatened to derail the debate, and the Harris campaign hit Trump in a desperate situation.

“Both candidates have made it clear that they are willing to debate with muted microphones during the debate to fully allow meaningful exchanges between the candidates — but Donald Trump appears to be allowing his handlers to override it. Sad!” A Harris campaign spokesman previously told NBC News in a statement.

Trump told reporters that he was thinking about it withdraws from the argument because he told ABC News’ “This Week” in an interview that Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.

“When I saw the hostility of this, I said, ‘Why am I doing this?’ Let’s do it with another network.’ I want to do it,” Trump said.

He also admitted he had no problem with both microphones being live, but said he and Biden “agreed to the same rules” as in the June 27 debate. “I’d probably like to run it, but the deal would be the same as last time. In this case, it was muted,” Trump said.

In a post on ABC, which is hosting the debate, Trump publicly refused About Truth Social on Aug. 27 when he said he had “come to terms” with the network.

Tuesday’s virtual coin flip determined the placement of the podium and the order of closing statements on September 10, ABC News reports. Trump won the coin toss and decided to speak last during the closing remarks. Harris chose the correct podium position on the screen.
