Fresh off a jam-packed week of Democratic National Convention events, reports are coming in that attendees have tested positive for Covid.
They include members of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign staff, who are currently battling Covid-19, two sources close to the campaign said. They added that there was at least some concern that the developments could affect the staff at this week’s events.
One of the sources said the symptoms aides have heard so far have been mild, and a third person close to the campaign said there were no concerns about staffing the events.
Various participants and reporters after the convention ended on Thursday posted photos positive covid results.
“You put 20,000 people in an 18,000-seat building, it’s bound to happen,” said Jaimey Sexton, a Chicago political consultant who attended the convention and many related events. Sexton said he knows people from the convention who now have Covid and has heard even more anecdotes. “You can ask anyone planning an event, they know someone with Covid,” he said.
The convention was packed every day at the United Center, especially on Thursday night, when Harris gave his acceptance remarks. Before 20:00, the organizers announced that the venue would be closed because it was full.
