Walz accepts invite for VP debate on Oct. 1

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz on Wednesday accepted the invitation From CBS News to the Oct. 1 vice presidential debate between Sen. JD Vance of Ohio.

Waltz responded to the network’s offer In an article on X for the two candidates to face off on stage weeks before Election Day.

“See you on October 1st, JD,” Walz wrote in his post Seven minutes after the CBS News tweet.

A Harris campaign official said the campaign has “accepted CBS’s invitation to the Vice Presidential Debate on October 1st. Governor Waltz looks forward to debating with JD Vance — if he comes.”

Vance said during an interview with Fox News on Wednesday night that he plans to argue with Walz, but did not commit to a specific date.

“Of course we’re going to spar with Tim Waltz. We heard about it three hours ago, so we’ll talk to them and figure out when we can spar,” Vance said.

“I actually think we should have more than one debate. So I’m hoping we’ll see it on October 1st, but I’m hoping we’ll see it either before or after because I think it’s the American people It’s important for us to see that we’re actually discussing our ideas.”

CBS News said Wednesday that it has invited the two vice presidential candidates to debate and offered four dates as options: Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1 and Oct. 8. “We are waiting for their answers.” the network said.

A CBS News spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether Vance had responded to the network.
