ATLANTA – Georgia state Rep. Devan Seabaugh has been charged with driving under the influence after authorities say he collided with a bicyclist in the bike lane of an Atlanta street.

Seabaugh faces seven charges, including driving under the influence and driving under the influence of drugs, Atlanta Municipal Court records show.

A Cobb County politician was arrested Thursday night by a Georgia State Patrol task force targeting drunk drivers in Atlanta’s Grant Park neighborhood.

“Today I am thankful that no one was seriously injured in last night’s traffic accident,” Seabaugh posted on social media.

“I appreciate the professionalism of the law enforcement officers on the scene and we will allow the legal process to continue,” he said. “I look forward to the facts coming out and bringing clarity to all concerned.”

Seabaugh was booked into the Atlanta City Jail and released early Friday. No attorney was listed for him in court records, which did not provide additional details such as the type of drugs.

Seabaugh, a Republican, was elected to the Georgia House in a special election in the summer of 2021. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on this. His district includes parts of western Cobb County and parts of Marietta and Kennesaw.

Seabaugh faces Democratic challenger Carl Gallegos in the Nov. 5 general election.
