A Virginia man has been charged with making multiple death threats against the vice president Kamala Harrislikely Democrat presidential candidate.
Frank Carillo, of Winchester, Virginia, posted a series of violent threats about Harris on the conservative social media site GETTR last month. criminal complaint It opened Friday in the Western region of Virginia. Investigators alleged that Carillo wrote about Harris 19 times, including threats to shoot, stab and burn her alive.
Carillo made his first appearance in federal court on Monday. He is being held pending a court hearing scheduled for Thursday.
In one of his social media posts on July 27, two weeks after Harris launched his presidential campaign and assassinated former President Donald Trump, Carrillo said that if elected, he would shoot and kill anyone who tried to obstruct his efforts. , the criminal complaint says. Investigators said a search of Carillo’s home turned up two weapons – a handgun he bought last year and an RF-15 rifle he bought this year.
Carillo also made statements about other federal officials, including President Joe Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray, in the alleged complaint. After being arrested, Carrillo told officers, “That’s the interpretation of everything, right?”, investigators said.
A public defender listed for Carillo did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday evening.
