Simone Biles loves her “black work”.
Olympic gymnast, who won two gold medals X, who made her the most decorated US gymnast in Paris, took a swipe at former President Donald Trump in her Friday post.
The 27-year-old singer shared the post of singer Ricky Davila celebrating Biles as she posed for photos holding her medal and “Goat” necklace.
“Simone Biles being the GOAT, winning gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her business,” Davila said.
“I love my black work,” Biles replied, adding a black heart emoji.
The post appears as an answer Trump said in the June debate.
“They’re hiring black people now, and it could be 18, 19 or even 20 million people,” he said of the role immigrants play in the U.S. economy. “They’re taking Black jobs and they’re taking Hispanic jobs and you haven’t seen it yet, but you’re going to see something that’s going to be the worst in our history.”
These words of Trump caused immediate reactions. At the National Association of Black Journalists convention on Wednesday, Trump was asked to define what “black work” is.
“Black work is anybody with a job, that’s it. Anyone with a job,” he said.
Controversial comments Senator JD Vanze, R-Ohio, resurfaced this week after Biles’ victory. Vance, Trump’s 2021 running mate, questioned why the gymnast should be praised after she withdrew from the Tokyo Olympics to focus on her mental health. Biles said gymnasts develop something they call “twisties.”
“I think we try to celebrate people not for their moments of strength, not for their moments of heroism, but for their weakest moments,” Vance said at the time.
Many social media users called Vance to Biles’ defense, with one writing: “What has JD Vance ever done better than what Simone Biles has done and continues to do?”
