ATLANTA – Vice President Kamala Harris, facing new GOP attack ads seeking to define her early in her campaign, attacked immigration and border security before firing up thousands at an overcapacity arena Tuesday night.
With chants of “Kamala” and “shut him up” aimed at former President Donald Trump, Harris began his line of attack by recounting his experience as the attorney general of America’s largest border state, California.
“In that job, I traveled underground tunnels between the United States and Mexico with law enforcement officers. I went after transnational gangs, drug cartels and human traffickers who were illegally entering our country. I sued them and I won.”
“And Donald Trump talks a big game about border security, but he doesn’t walk the walk. Or as my friend Quavo says, ‘he ain’t walkin’ like I talkin’,'” Harris said, referring to the Atlanta rapper who previously confirmed their moments.
Harris’s remarks were his sharpest effort yet to refute Republican claims that he lacks the will and experience to secure the border, that he has failed to do so as vice president and would remain ineffective on the issue if elected president.
“This is America’s border king, and he has defeated us. Under Harris, there are over 10 million people here illegally.” Trump’s new ad says about Harris. The narrator completes his words like this: “Kamala Harris. Failed, weak, dangerously liberal.”
Immigration and the border It has been one of Trump’s strongest issues throughout the election. Harris, who is holding his second rally as a presidential candidate this month after taking over from President Joe Biden, launched into a crime spree on immigration and lambasted Trump for his role in regulating a bipartisan bill that would enact tougher border reforms. If the crossings reach a certain point, it would allow the president to close it.
“Our administration has been working on the most significant border security bill,” Harris said.
“It was all set to pass, but at the last minute Trump ordered his allies in the Senate to reject the vote. He stopped a bilateral deal because he thought it would help him win the election,” she said to cheers. “Donald Trump doesn’t care about border security. He only thinks about himself.”
He also jabbed Trump for reneging on his promise to debate him. Trump now says he will wait until the Democratic ticket is finalized after the historic candidate changes this month.
“Well, Donald, I hope you reconsider meeting me on the debate stage,” Harris teased his opponent. “Because as the saying goes, if you have something to say, say it to my face.”
Harris emboldened the crowd, who hung on every word, including denouncing Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, as “freaks.”
He spent little time urging voters to go to the polls in November — mostly because he didn’t need to. The nearly 10,000 attendees in Atlanta, the campaign’s largest crowd yet, were well aware of the work ahead of them in November.
A set of massive Atlanta dance classics, from Soulja Boy’s “Crank That” to Usher’s “Yeah!”, as well as a performance by Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion, got the energy going before some of Georgia’s most prominent Democrats invited them on. Repeat the record turnout that sent Biden to the White House and resulted in a Senate vote in 2020. Speakers also took their jabs at Trump, who was indicted last year on charges of conspiring to overturn the 2020 election results in Fulton County. Court building.
“The American people are the jury, we’re going to get the right verdict and we’re going to send Kamala Harris to the White House,” said Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock.
Rep. Nikema Williams, chairwoman of the state Democratic Party: “Not only is he still losing in Georgia, but he’s a 34-count felon.” I don’t know about you all, but I’m ready to beat him again.”
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said: “Kamala Harris has proven that she is ready to file a criminal case against Donald Trump. Who better to receive a criminal than a prosecutor?”
When Harris took the stage, the crowd was full of energy.
“If you’ve never voted before, make sure you get out to vote because it’s real,” Quavo said.
The Harris campaign’s Georgia office wrapped up a weekend of events designed specifically to appeal to a base already enthusiastic about the woman at the top of the Democratic ticket.
This weekend, the campaign held more than 174 events across Georgia, recruited thousands of new volunteers and opened three new field offices to boost Biden’s chances of retaining a state he narrowly won in 2020.
