Behind Vice President Kamala Harris’ character as “Momala,” she has two stepchildren: Cole and Ella Emhoff. With Harris’ presidential campaign in full swing, they are also in the spotlight.
Ella Emhoff, 25, spoke earlier this week It resurfaced in 2021 after comments from GOP Vice President JD Vance, who said Harris and other Democrats were “childless cat ladies” who “wanted to make the rest of the country miserable.”
In an Instagram story posted on Thursday, Ella Emhoff took it back.
“How can you be ‘childless’ when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I?” he said. “I love my three parents.”
The youngest members of the second family, Cole, 29, and Ella, 25, are the children of second gentleman Doug Emhoff, who was previously married to film producer Kerstin Emhoff, who himself called Vance’s comments “absurd”.
“For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been co-parenting with Doug and I,” she told NBC News in a statement. “He is loving, caring, fiercely protective and always available. I love our blended family and am grateful to be part of it.”
Vance spokesman Taylor Van Kirk told NBC News that those on the left took Vance’s words out of context “and lied about his position on these issues.”
Since the pandemic and President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential bid, Ella Emhoff has become a social media phenomenon.
Dubbed by some as “Bushwick’s first girl,” the New York City native is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and signed to the famed IMG Models agency in 2021. He is also one cameo In Bo Burham’s 2013 video for “Repeat Stuff.”
Gen Z Americans associate her with her androgynous fashion sense and quirky hobbies since her stepmother took over as vice president. He said 2021 New York Times interview, said her mother, Doug Emhoff, and Harris, along with her brother, are a “parental trio.” He said they don’t always have his best interests at heart, but they’re supportive anyway.
“With hair and tattoos and stuff like that, I think they’re all like, ‘I don’t get it, but I want you to be who you want to be,'” she said.
She has appeared on magazine covers and editorials and walked the runways. She is also known for her New York City knitting club, Soft Hands Knit Club, where she teaches community members to knit using her own materials.
On her website, Ella Emhoff describes herself as a multifaceted artist and creator. She is very active on Instagram, where she mainly shares photos of her knitting, modeling and her dog.
In an interview with the New York Times, Ella described her parents’ relationship as “an eternal honeymoon phase,” saying that she had a close relationship with her stepmother.
“It’s a beautiful dynamic that we all have. I think it’s a good model to show that you can have it and it’s not weird,” she said.
Doug Emhoff’s son Cole is significantly quieter than his sister about his social media presence, but he has repeatedly demonstrated his close relationship with Harris. At her wedding last year, Harris officiated.
“It was so cool that kids asked me to do it,” Harris He told “People” magazine on time. “For us, we think of marriage as a coming together of families, not just between these two people. That’s why we all participated in this spirit.”
Cole Emhoff said he loved Harris when they first met when he was a senior in high school.
“I met him and we had this wonderful dinner. And I realized, Oh my God, Doug met someone totally unique and totally special,” she said. Glamor said in 2020.
Both sisters attended Biden’s 2021 inauguration, and behind-the-scenes photos from the event broke up Cole’s otherwise low-key Instagram feed.
“It’s weird to turn on CNN and see my dad. I say, ‘Wait, you don’t belong there! But I suppose you do?'” he said in an interview with the New York Times. “It’s an unprecedented feeling for us because we haven’t been around politics all our lives. We are still getting used to it.”
