Former president Donald Trump He plans to stop holding outdoor rallies like the one in Butler, Pennsylvania, this month when he was shot in an assassination attempt, according to two sources familiar with his campaign’s operations.
Sources said current plans are to hold indoor rallies, but they said it’s possible Trump could attend smaller outdoor events or larger rallies at facilities where access is more fully controlled and nearby stadiums don’t have height issues.
Spokesmen for the Trump campaign and the Secret Service did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday night.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle announced the change of locations announced his resignation. In his resignation letter, Cheatle said he took “full responsibility for the security breach” in Pennsylvania.
One Phone interview with Newsmax “I just heard he’s going overseas and I don’t think he has much of a choice,” Trump commented on his resignation Tuesday night.
He added that in recent months his campaign has asked for more Secret Service agents at campaign events but “can’t get them.”
After the July 13 shooting that left one rally participant dead and two others injured, Trump has repeatedly cited his security. Trump during a walk before his speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week he noted that he felt safe inside– said a well-informed source on the issue.
Trump’s team had planned an outdoor arrival and greeting of supporters before his address to Congress, but then canceled aetcattempted assassinationaccording to a source familiar with the planning.
In an interview with Newsmax, Trump also talked about the closed rally he held in Michigan over the weekend.
“Do I feel safe? Yes, I should feel safe. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to do these things,” he said.
