Law enforcement agencies have identified the person who assassinated former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The FBI identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. A motive was not clear.

Communications chief Anthony Guglielmi said the gunman was immediately “neutralized” by the Secret Service.

Bethel Park is a predominantly white, relatively affluent town on the south side of greater Pittsburgh. Butler, the site of the rally, is about an hour north of Pittsburgh.

Pennsylvania voter records listed a Thomas Matthew Crooks with the same address and date of birth as the registered Republican, though it was unclear from the records when that was filed.

At a news conference Saturday evening, law enforcement officials said the investigation was close to positively identifying the shooter, who had no identification on him, state police Lt. Col. George Bivens said.

“The identity of the shooter has been determined initially. “It’s a matter of doing biometric verifications.”

Investigators also prioritized finding a motive and determining whether the shooter had accomplices, authorities said at a news conference.
