New campaign finance reports bear this out Donald Trump‘s political action committee paid a law firm that was a longtime adviser to the former president Boris Epstein Ahead of a pending criminal trial in Arizona.
PAC leadership saved America Two payments of $40,000 and $10,000 May 14 to Phoenix-based law firm Tully Bailey LLP. Named partner Michael BaileyThe 2019-2021 U.S. attorney for Arizona has represented Epstein in the Arizona case since at least May 9, according to court records.
Epstein was among those indicted in April for allegedly helping orchestrate an alleged fraudulent voter scheme in Arizona to send voters for Trump to the U.S. Capitol to be counted instead of Joe Biden voters after the 2020 election. He pleaded not guilty.
Bailey, who did not respond to multiple requests for comment, represented Epstein his court date is June 18with the court’s permission and prosecutors’ consent, it was delayed because of Bailey’s obligations to another out-of-state client.
It is unclear whether the payment to the firm was directly related to Epstein’s representation, but the payments were the PAC’s first payments to him.
Since last year, none of the 30 other Trump-linked defendants in Arizona or a related scheme in Georgia have received direct financial support from Save America for their legal expenses.
Epstein often participates in Trump’s election campaign. He led the coordination of multiple legal teams advising on Trump’s New York hush money trial and three pending criminal cases, as well as the House committee’s investigation, which adjourned on Jan. 6.
Save America, which Trump founded in November 2020, and Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign have spent at least $90.6 million on legal expenses primarily on his behalf. Federal Election Commission filings for 2021 show that about $83 million of that amount went to Save America.
The PAC paid for “legal advice” to law firms representing Trump co-defendants Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira in the Mar-a-Lago documents case in Florida. However, the agency’s filings do not reflect payments to those firms since late last year, nor are any Trump-affiliated political entities believed to have paid attorneys representing defendants other than Trump and Epstein in Arizona or Georgia. Fulton County, Georgia, district attorney Fannie Willis’ election interference case against Trump and dozens of other co-defendants has been stayed pending an appeal of her continued involvement in the case.
Asked whether Save America has paid the legal fees of any other defendants in Georgia or Arizona, the organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Stephen Cheung, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, did not respond.
In December 2022, Save America paid nearly $900,000 to McGuireWoods LLP, which represented former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows in both the January 6 congressional investigation and other ongoing matters.
In 2021 and 2022, Save America paid attorney Stanley Woodward’s law firm about $175,000 as the committee subpoenaed a network of people close to Trump in the weeks surrounding the January 6 Capitol attack. Woodward represented a number of Trump’s personal assistants, including Nautan, during the investigation. Will Russell and Dan Scavino. He also represented Nauta in the Mar-a-Lago documents case since the investigative phase.
