WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump will attend a Road to Majority 2024 conference in Washington on Saturday for the Faith and Freedom Coalition — an evangelical group that advocates for a national abortion ban that contradicts Trump’s policy statements on the issue.
Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has walked a tightrope in his remarks on abortion restrictions, which Democrats see as a liability for the GOP heading into November. Earlier this year he refused to support a national abortion bansaid that the decision of the issue should be left to the provinces.
Despite their differences, Christian conservatives form Trump’s core and cheered his appointment of three conservative Supreme Court justices, who later overturned the landmark Roe v. They overturned the Wade decision.
The Faith and Freedom coalition supports abortion bans in many states after the Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling. Ralph Reed, the group’s founder and chairman, said in a statement earlier this week that the former president would be welcomed with open arms at Trump’s ninth speech at the group’s “Path to Majority” conference on Saturday.
“I am confident that President Trump will receive an enthusiastic response from our community activists, who he has won for being such a steadfast champion of our shared values of faith and freedom,” Reed said.

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whately will also speak at the conference on Saturday.
