Tuesday, The Biden administration He plans to announce an executive order protecting the undocumented spouses of American citizens, which would protect about 500,000 immigrants from deportation, according to four sources familiar with the matter.

“This is the biggest thing since DACA,” said one of the sources, an immigration advocate, adding that it was a smart political move by the Biden administration.

Four sources, including attorneys and Capitol Hill staffers, said lawmakers had been briefed and at least some had been invited to the White House for the announcement.

NBC News reported last week it is likely that an executive order protecting spouses will be announced soon.

Known as “parole in place,” the program would also make it easier for some undocumented immigrants to obtain green cards and a path to U.S. citizenship.

Sources also say that undocumented spouses will be allowed to obtain work permits separately.

Three sources said about it President Joe Biden will also announce a new promotion for DACA recipients who have earned a degree in higher education and are seeking employment in the same field.

The planned measures come after immigration advocates and Democratic lawmakers appealed to the administration favoring long-term undocumented immigrants, and while Biden tries to court Latino voters in key battleground states like Nevada and Arizona.

The actions are expected to be challenged in court.
