Closing arguments set to begin in Hunter Biden’s historic criminal trial

Closing arguments in the federal gun case will begin Monday Hunter Biden the first criminal trial of the son of the incumbent president is about to end.

The development comes after Hunter Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, heard his client’s case this morning without calling him to the stand. Lowell said Friday that a decision will be made over the weekend on whether his client will testify.

Hunter Biden is charged in federal court in Wilmington counts as three felonies was charged with possession of a weapon while using drugs and pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors allege Hunter Biden lied when he filled out a federal form to buy a gun in October 2018, saying he was not a drug user or addict. Lowell suggested that his client did not “knowingly” deceive anyone because he did not consider himself a drug addict or drug user at the time.

Lowell called it quits around 10:30 a.m.

Prosecutors then called the FBI special agent back to the stand Erika Jensen for a brief rebuttal statement. Jensen was the first witness called by prosecutors in the case and testified about information found on Hunter Biden’s computer, phone and tablet.

On Monday, he was asked about Hunter Biden’s messages to Hallie Biden about the gun deal, including her alleged meeting with a drug dealer. Lowell suggested that his client lied about the location of his brother Beau’s widow, Hallie Biden, because he did not want to see her. Jensen testified that geolocation data showed Hunter Biden was physically in the areas he told Hallie Biden he was.

Hallie Biden was romantically involved when Hunter Biden bought the gun — years after her husband’s death — and she testified last week that she threw it out after discovering it in his car.

The the trial began On June 3, former President Donald Trump faced off against President Joe Biden, days after he was charged in New York state court with falsifying business documents.

First lady Jill Biden and the president’s brother, James Biden, were in court on Monday. Jill Biden attended several days of court proceedings.
