CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A candidate for West Virginia secretary of state said he was hospitalized after being bitten by a rattlesnake while removing campaign signs.
Doug Skaff Wednesday near U.S. Route 119 in Danville, said he was bitten on his left leg and right leg.
Skaff told West Virginia MetroNews radio that bystanders called for medical help. The South Charleston resident said he expects to stay in a hospital in Charleston for several days.
Skaff filed for secretary of state as a Republican on Tuesday. In unofficial earnings, Skaff was second only to Chris Warner.
Skaff He resigned his House seat from Kanawha County last September after resigned as House Democratic leader in August. He announced that in October Switch to the GOP and is running for the position of secretary of state.
Skaff served in the House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. He is president of HD Media, which owns the Charleston Gazette-Mail and several other state newspapers.
