At least four senior Trump campaign staffers were among the Republican National Committee staffers fired on Monday. purplee formally took over the reins of the RNC, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
One of the key staffers fired was RNC political director Elliot Echols.
The shakeup comes after the RNC Met in Houston A pair of new leaders, chosen by Trump last week, will be installed: Chairman Michael Whatley, who previously led the North Carolina Republican Party, and Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as co-chair. Former RNC Chairman McDaniel agreed step down after Trump formally endorsed Whatley last month.
Chris LaCivita, Trump’s co-campaign manager, took over as chief operating officer at the RNC on Monday. He hired Sean Cairncross, who led RNC operations in 2015-2016, as his deputy.
LaCivita will be involved in two combined operations from Washington and the campaign.
Cairncross sent an email to staff on Monday saying Whatley was leading a staffing review and some staff would be asked to resign and reapply, according to a source familiar with the matter.
According to a copy of the email obtained by NBC News, the assessment is intended to “ensure the building is aligned with its vision of how to win in November.”
“During this process, certain personnel will be required to resign and reapply for a position on the team,” the letter said.
Financial and digital operations are expected to be cut, the source said, while up to 60 RNC employees could be affected by the layoffs.
