Justice Department issues subpoena over a House Democrat’s use of federal funds for security

WASHINGTON — A recent call to the House’s sergeant-at-arms concerns Democratic MP is using federal funds for the security vendor, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News on Monday.

The identity of the deputy was not immediately known.

The secretary of the House of Representatives has publicly informed the legislators about this call request when the chamber opened its session Monday, but few details were released.

“This is to formally notify you pursuant to Rule 8 of the rules of the House of Representatives that the office of the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives has been served with a grand jury subpoena for documents issued by the United States Department of Justice,” House Reading Clerk Susan Cole, House at Arms said Sergeant William McFarland, reading the notice.
