Since the last presidential election in 2020, Latinos have accounted for half of the increase in new voters. according to a new report by the Pew Research Center.
There are now 36.2 million Hispanic voters in 2024, up from 32.3 million in 2020. Latinos currently make up almost 15% of the nation’s eligible voters.
A narrow majority of all US Latinos (53%) were eligible to vote in 2022, but there are large differences across states ahead of this election. In New Mexico, 66% of Hispanics can vote, compared to 36% in Tennessee and 39% in Maryland.
In fact, almost two-thirds of the nation’s eligible Latino voters live in just five states: California, Texas, Florida, New York and Arizona.
Latino eligible voters are also younger than other groups: 48% of all eligible voters are over 50, compared to just 33% for Hispanics.
Despite the group’s relative youth compared to other voting blocs and the fact that 19% of Latinos are not US citizens, approximately 1.4 million Hispanics qualify to vote each year.
