Driver in custody after crashing into White House gates

WASHINGTON – A driver was arrested Monday after crashing a car into an exterior door White House complex, a spokesman for the Secret Service wrote in X.

Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said, “Shortly before 6:00 p.m., a vehicle crashed into the outer gate of the White House complex.” He wrote in X. “The driver has been taken into custody and we are investigating the cause and manner of the collision.”

Guglielmi warned of possible traffic impacts at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, the east side of the White House complex near the Treasury Building.

One the next tweet after 7:30 p.m., Guglielmi said the vehicle had been cleared from the scene and traffic would be closed for the area. He added that the driver is still in custody as the investigation continues.
